Heaven is a real place

Today is my brother-in-law Paul’s 36th birthday. And he is spending it in heaven. Many of you know that my husband’s younger brother took his leave of this earth prematurely, 6 years ago. We all never thought we would get through it, but you know what? We did. And we are stronger for it. Not that we haven’t been through dark days, even dark years, but God’s mercy is new every morning and we have survived the hardest of times.

Loss is such a universal thing, I’m sure each one of you reading this post have experienced it in some way . . . loss of a parent, a spouse, a child, a love, a marriage, they are all painful. But please know this, you are not alone. Not only have we all been touched by it, but Jesus was touched by it.

The Bible says in Isaiah 53:7 that He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. That doesn’t mean we don’t grieve, but we don’t have to let that grief bury us. It also says the chastisement of our peace was upon Him. That says to me that eventhough I cannot imagine feeling peace during the saddest of times, He is always there with me to bear me up.

Praying in the Spirit is one of the most effective tools we have when we are struggling to get through a time of loss. When there are no words to say and no more tears to cry, He sends His Holy Spirit to be our comforter. When Lynn and I would go to bed at night on those first weeks after Paul’s death, we would lie there and pray in the Holy Spirit until peace would come and we could finally go to sleep. The Comforter was there then and He’s here now. All we have to do is call on Him.

  1. What an awesome reminder of God’s love for us and his desire to be a comfort to us, He doesn’t want us to paste on a fake happy face and pretend we’re not hurting, He wants to actually feel his comfort. Thank you for this, Juli.

  2. Very timely for me. My grandmother just suddenly passed away Thursday. At the hospital while we waited for doctors I was praying in the spirit. When they came with what was grave news for them I (unlike times before) felt complete peace about it. I knew she was in heaven and started focusing my prayers on my family. God is good.

  3. I will say a special prayer for Terry and Jackie and family. I can’t believe its been 6 yrs already…. Thanks for posting the picture of Paul …. a pic is worth a thousand words…. blessings, Cindy

  4. Thank you Juli. What a wonderful scripture! Jesus did take all that for US.
And God absolutely knows what we are going through when we are hurting due to a death of a loved one. Remember, He watched His SON Jesus die a terrible death for you and me. That precious Blood of Jesus paid the price for redemption – the ability to have a right relationship with God again. Then He placed Himself, Jesus and the HS in us when we ASK. No wonder He can comfort us so perfectly. God truly is good. We can get through difficult times through Christ Jesus!
