So I’m sitting on my back porch and I see bird poop on the deck. My deck is not spectacular, but it’s mine and I like it. There are lots of other decks that are nicer than mine. There are patios and porches everywhere from the humblest to the grandest and do you know what they all have in common? Birds poop on all of them. From the trailer park to Buckingham Palace, poop is universal.
Wow, Juli’s talking about poop. But you know what? Poop happens. It’s a fact. There’s nothing we can do about it. We have no control over the birds flying overhead, but we have a choice when it comes to how we deal with their poop.
First of all, we can just live with it, which we all do with certain situations. Secondly, we can sweep it all into the corner, which is not very appealing because we can still smell it, or we can completely hose it down and obliterate it and not have to see it, smell it, or even remember it; like it was never even there. That is the way God wants us to deal with it.
The Bible says in Psalm 34:19 that many are the afflictions of the righteous but He promises to deliver us out of them all. That says to me that God will deliver me out of my bird poop! If I will turn to His Word and seek out those precious promises, I am always comforted. I know He will never leave me nor forsake me, I know his mercies are new every morning for me, I know His Word is always truth for me, and I know that whatever my deck looks like, He is always there to help me clean it right up.
