It’s not about you

Look at these beautiful faces. They are precious people who came to one of my father-in-law’s crusades in the coastal city of Trivandrum in the state of Kerala, India several years ago. Lynn took the picture and he remembers it well.

This is why we do what we do. This is what ministry is all about  This is why Jesus went to the cross . . . so that all should be saved. It’s not about you!

This seems like such a simple statement, but how many of us really believe it?

I know I’m not alone in saying that I lead an extremely busy life. Like so many of you, Lynn and I are juggling work, home life, school, ministry, kids, (OK, we just have one but he feels like ten sometimes,) and on and on. We are all responsible for a myriad of details and decisions every day, but what is painful for me to admit is the fact that sometimes I forget what it’s all about.

Sometimes I get so caught up in the details of life that I forget what my purpose is. I forget to help people because I’m just trying to make it through the day. But you know what? It’s not about me.

Something that Lynn and I talk about all the time and are trying to ingrain in ourselves is it’s not about us. This life we are living is not about us! It’s about what we can do for someone else, how we can be a blessing to our families, our friends, our jobs, our ministries, and how we can accomplish the absolute MOST important task, getting the Gospel to the world.

God considered the Great Commission so important that He put it in the Bible five times: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts. Five times He told us to get the Gospel to the world. And whether I am working as support staff to a minister, or ministering myself, or if I were a stay home Mom or busy with a career and just paying my tithes and giving my offerings to my local church, whichever way, I am doing my part in fulfilling that Great Commission. And we all have a part to play, not just the preachers, all of us. Because it’s not about us.

Well said Juli, I love your sweet heart! We all do have a part and it’s important to stay in our place even when it seems like we are not making a difference.
People ARE watching us . My prayer I pray over my self every day is, that people would see Jesus in me and that I wouldn’t do or say anything that wouldn’t be pleasing to HIM. Now because of a message Patsy Cameneti did at Kindle the Flame , I add help me give honor to those who don’t have any.
That prayer is a daily reminder to me that it is NOT ABOUT ME.
Thank you for the “faces of the world”
    I love you!
